Rapid disability inclusion barrier and facilitator assessment in South Sudanese refugee camps (Ethiopia)

Humanity and Inclusion

Bodhi assessed the barriers and facilitating factors affecting access to humanitarian services for persons with disabilities and other at-risk populations among South Sudanese refugees and host communities in Gambella, Ethiopia. The assessment began with a comprehensive literature review covering the literature on persons with disabilities in Ethiopia, refugees with disabilities in Ethiopia, the situation of refugees and persons with disabilities in the Gambella Region, as well as the legal framework and applicable laws in Ethiopia related to persons with disabilities. The information gathered was used as the basis for developing data collection tools (FGDs and KIIs discussion guide, preliminary survey questionnaire) and preparing the implementation of the assessment. We examined various types of barriers, including attitudinal, financial, physical, institutional, and safety and security obstacles. This comprehensive analysis aimed to identify key challenges and opportunities for improving inclusive humanitarian assistance in the region.
