Bodhi conducted a final evaluation of Search for Common Ground's Youth Talk programme, which focuses on empowering young people through media in Mali, Central African Republic, and South Sudan. The programme was implemented between 2019 and 2022 and was funded by the Bezos Family Foundation. Our evaluation assessed the programme's effectiveness in transforming youth knowledge and skills through media, particularly radio programming. We examined attitude and perception changes among adolescents and adults towards each other, and whether adolescents felt their voices were being heard as a result of the programme. The study analysed the impact of media-based interventions on youth empowerment and intergenerational understanding in these conflict-affected countries. The mixed-methods methodology involved a desk review of 68 documents, including activity reports, baseline documents, reflection meeting notes, and so on, 56 key informant interviews, 61 focus group discussions in the implementation locations, and two quantitative surveys - a community survey with 1159 respondents and a youth journalists survey with 183 respondents. This comprehensive evaluation aimed to provide insights into the effectiveness of media-based youth empowerment strategies and inform future programming in similar contexts.
