National Consultant - Thailand
We are seeking a proactive and experienced consultant based in Thailand to join Bodhi Global Analysis' consultant roster. This is a project-based role, where you will collaborate with an international research team to conduct field research, coordinate data collection, and contribute to analysis for an in-depth quantitative and qualitative study on youth poverty in Thailand.
As a Thailand-based consultant, you will provide essential contextual expertise and lead in-country data collection activities, ensuring the research captures the nuanced dynamics of youth poverty specific to the Thai context. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a significant study that will generate actionable evidence to inform inclusive, youth-responsive policies in Thailand.
Key tasks and responsibilities
- Provide contextual expertise on youth poverty, social protection, and the policy environment affecting young people aged 15-24 in Thailand
- Support the recruitment of Youth Advisory Group (YAG) members, ensuring gender and geographic diversity with representation from Bangkok and secondary research locations
- Contribute to the cultural adaptation of research tools and translation of research protocols, consent forms, and study materials into Thai
- Recruit, train, and supervise youth co-researchers and enumerators across field sites
- Coordinate fieldwork across two locations (Bangkok and a secondary regional site), overseeing peer-to-peer interviews, Photovoice documentation, and survey administration
- Facilitate access to local stakeholders and liaise with government contacts for site-level approvals
- Produce clean verbatim transcripts in Thai and English from qualitative data collection
- Support the organisation and facilitation of the national validation workshop with government and civil society stakeholders
- Conduct final review of all Thai-language outputs, including the final report and bilingual policy briefs
- Liaise with the international research team throughout all project phases
Person Specification
Qualifications and experience
- Master's degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Public Policy, Economics, or a related discipline
- At least 5 years' experience working in research, monitoring and evaluation for national or international organisations in Thailand
- Demonstrated expertise in youth-focused research, social protection, or poverty analysis in the Thai context
- Strong experience in mixed-methods research, including both quantitative survey administration and qualitative data collection (semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions, participatory methods)
- Previous experience coordinating field research teams, including recruitment and supervision of enumerators
- Knowledge of the Thai policy environment related to youth development, social protection, and poverty reduction, including familiarity with the National Economic and Social Development Plan
- Experience working with bilateral or multilateral development organisations
- Native Thai language proficiency and strong English language proficiency (both written and verbal)
- Experience conducting research in Pattani and/or established networks in the region are preferable
Desirable
- Experience with youth participatory research methods or youth-led research approaches
- Knowledge of multidimensional poverty measurement and analysis
- Experience working with marginalised populations, including ethnic minorities, migrants, youth with disabilities, or LGBTQIA+ communities
- Familiarity with the Grounded Accountability Model (GAM) or similar participatory research frameworks
- Experience conducting research in both urban (Bangkok) and regional/rural Thai contexts

- Integrity: Strong commitment to research ethics, confidentiality, child safeguarding, and adherence to international research standards
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to convey complex concepts clearly and concisely in both Thai and English
